The Lonely Wolf

A short film portraying my 85-year-old grandfather's conflict with the passage of time, symbolizing his loneliness as he's left behind while his 12 grandchildren, now grown, move away from him, farther and faster than he can catch up with at his age.

About Us

At 84 years old, my grandfather has 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He has grown old in a house that has always been full. He has always wished to be together with his family, and he has been successful so far. A joint family of about 20 members that still eat under the same roof is proof of that.

But coming from a town, all of us moved out one by one to bigger cities. Some got married, some are working, and the rest are studying. I am one of the youngest and it has been more than 6 years since I moved out as well. My grandmother passed away 4 years back, and while my grandfather himself may not say much about it, the death of someone who’s stayed by your side for decades can leave a vacuum behind

Concept

Despite what youtube has told us about wolf pack hierarchy being solely about dominance, a pack is essentially a family structure with the child-rearing couple as the alpha male and female. With their close-knit ties and strong family bond, it seemed an ideal symbolism for my concept. A wolf separated from his pack, howling to try and communicate, to reunite with them. As he does, he remembers a time when the little ones were running to him, but as time passed, they grew into their own, and are now walking away, farther and faster than he can catch up with at his age.

It is a film that portrays my grandfather’s loneliness, his feelings of being left behind, and his wish to continue living together with all of his family till he breathes his last.
